.: Reaper Racing Update - Ft. Walton Beach Photos!! :.

May 23rd, 2007

Quick's Motorsports and the Reaper monster truck have been all over the past few weeks from Georgia to Vermont and back down to Florida!!
The last weekend of April saw the Reaper team at the Dixie Motor Speedway in Woodstock, GA for a Checkered Flag show, racing against some of the top names in the industry. Friday night saw Larry run hard in racing and put on a great freestyle as well before experiencing motor difficulty. The engine troubles would keep Reaper out of competition for Saturday night's event.
From Georgia, it was up to Bradford, VT for the first Vermonster 4x4 event of the season. With a brand new motor installed, Larry was on kill all weekend winning every competition over the three day show, with the exception of one wheelie contest. It was great hanging with the fine folks from Vermonster 4x4, be sure to head on over to www.Vermonster4x4.com and check them out.
This past weekend was the Extreme Monster Truck Nationals in Ft. Walton Beach, FL. Running against a strong lineup, Larry managed to pick up the wheelie contest win on Sunday, walking the truck all the way across the car set. Reaper also put on great freestyles all weekend. Photos from this event are posted!!
A big thank you to David Kranak for the great photos he took throughout the weekend. Check those out in the Photo Gallery. More to come, stay tuned!!

.: Reaper Racing Update - Ft. Pierce & New Videos!! :.

April 15th, 2007

Quick's Motorsports and the Reaper monster truck were in Ft. Pierce, FL this past weekend for the Extreme Monster Truck Nationals at the St. Lucie County Fairgrounds!!  Larry and the team had a rough weekend, plagued with breakage, but still managed to have everything together for all the shows and put on some wild freestyles for the Florida fans.
The Friday night show saw Reaper in the racing finals, but Larry would fall to Billy Chapin in Ragin' Rebel. Freestyle would see Larry attacking the bus stack, but the bus bit back, resulting in a couple of broken tie rods and a long night working on the truck. Saturday night started off well, with Reaper taking the Wheelie contest victory, but the bus would bite once again in freestyle. Coming over the top of the bus stack, the truck nosed toward the ground. Larry nailed the gas to ride out a wheelie, but the rear tie rod broke again slamming the truck down hard, and breaking the left front upper 4-link bar pocket off as well as destroying both front shocks.
The team would be up until 4AM Sunday morning repairing the damage to be ready in time for the Sunday afternoon show. Reaper made it through the show, ending the weekend by breaking another tie rod on the FMX hill in freestyle. It was a tough weekend, but Larry and the crew persevered and Reaper made all its runs, putting on a great show for the fans.
A big thank you to Flyin' Bryan Wagner for helping out this weekend, and for the great photos he took throughout the weekend. Check those out in the Photo Gallery. We have also posted some video highlights from the AMP Monster Truck Thunder Slam event in Duluth, MN a few weeks ago, so check that out in the Video Gallery. More to come, stay tuned!!

.: Quick Motorsports To Phase Out "Reaper" Name :.

April 6th, 2007

From the age of 17, Larry Quick has run the name “Reaper” on the door of just about every race truck he has owned—from mud bogging, to tough trucking, to monster truck racing. However in the past few months, a party has surfaced claiming infringement on their trademark of “Reaper 4x4”. This has put the “Reaper” trademark owned by Larry Quick in jeopardy.

Upon hearing this news, Larry and his family were devastated. Said Quick, “My heart sank when this deal came up, and we have had many sleepless nights and confused days trying to decide how to proceed. We feel confident that we are on solid ground in this matter, however to fight the challenge would cost us tens of thousands of dollars in legal fees. Ultimately we have decided to begin phasing out the “Reaper” name, as we have many exciting developments in the works that the money could be put to much better use for.”

What is in a truck name anyway? For the Quick family, much has been invested in building their team around the “Reaper” name, from the detailed paint scheme the truck features, even to a video game that was developed as a novelty item for the fans. But most of all, the name is what fans identify with at shows. This is the part of the situation that has left such a bad taste in Larry’s mouth. “As we were first dealing with the initial shock of this news, the stress built up to the point that it was having a negative impact on my daily life. I wasn’t as focused on the day-to-day operations of the business, and I became distant and snappy to my fellow drivers, friends, and family,” Quick continued.

But all it took was the simple logic of Larry’s daughter Sydney to bring things back into perspective. Sensing that her father wasn’t his usual self while loading up after a recent show, she asked, “Why are you mad daddy? I thought you loved this stuff.” And it was at that point that Larry snapped out of the negativity that had been surrounding him recently.

Larry explained, “I started this team back in the mud bogging days, and it has evolved into what it is today as a result of the love my family and I have for this sport. With all the stress in people’s daily lives, all they ask for is some peace and my 90 seconds on the track gives me that. These are the things that are important—bottom line is, they are much more important the name on the side of the truck.”

This fact has been re-enforced thanks to the outpouring of support from promoters, fellow drivers, and of course, all of the team’s great fans. “We got a call from a promoter who told us they have never booked the Reaper—they book Larry Quick, and that call meant the world to us,” said Quick. “I have got my head screwed on right again and will no longer let this issue be stressful for me. I am here to entertain the fans, regardless of what name ends up on the truck.”

Legally the team is still able to use the “Reaper” name for at least the next five months. But the issue has inspired Larry, who is already setting up a new identity for the current truck and making preparations to expand. A brand new truck is in the process of being completed, which Larry assures, will be his strongest ever. Be watching for news regarding the team’s new identity, its new truck, and an announcement about an upcoming stunt jump as well.

“This is far from my end in this sport,” said a confident Larry Quick. “It is only the beginning.”

.: Reaper Running Strong - Dayton & Moline!! :.

January 21st, 2007

Two more weeks are in the books for the 2007 season, and Larry Quick and the Reaper team are on a roll. Last weekend the team was in Dayton, OH at the Hara Arena for two shows, and Larry wasted no time making the Ohio monster trucks fans into Reaper fans. On Friday night, Larry tied for the Freestyle win with Dave Harkey in Bigfoot, pulling off a huge reverser over the van stack, and then rolling the truck during a donut attempt. Saturday night was not as kind though, as another rollover early during freestyle left a fair amount of damage to the cab. With the freestyle victory, Larry now sits 9th in the CFP Winter Nationals points chase and will be back on the chase in Florence, SC next weekend.
This weekend however would see Larry and Reaper competing in the team's "hometown" show at The Mark of the Quad Cities in Moline, IL. Larry was on kill Friday night, winning both the Wheelie and Donut contests before experiencing mechanical difficulties in freestyle, cutting short what had the makings of a wild run. The team buckled down and got the truck fixed and ready for Saturday, and Larry wasted no time putting down an excellent freestyle run including another huge reverse move and taking on the FMX hill. All in all, a successful weekend for Larry and Reaper, including being featured in a newspaper article "Driven to Success" in the Quad-City Times. You can view the article by clicking here.
Thanks to Jason Twite of Midwest Monsters for the picture at the left, and to Paul M. Harry of TheMonsterBlog.com, whose photos from Dayton are now posted in Photo Gallery. Check them out now, and be watching for some new merchandise available right here at ReaperRacing4x4.com coming soon!!

.: Reaper Kicks Off The Season In Missouri!! :.

January 9th, 2006

The Reaper Racing team traveled down to Cape Girardeau, MO for their first show of the year--the Monster Truck Winter Nationals at the Show Me Center!!  The new year would also bring some new additions to the Reaper team--new crew member Wendell, who did an excellent job his first weekend out, and a slightly new look.
As a way of showing our support for TheMonsterBlog.com--the site that is doing positive things for the monster truck industry and our team right now more than anyone else, we have partnered with Ross Bonar to run a Monster Blog-themed Reaper for the first part of 2007. The updated design, created by the fine folks at Vinyl Images, is sharp and eye-catching--people love the green!!  We have gotten some great comments on the scheme and look forward to showing it off at our shows in the coming weeks.
The show in Cape went well, as Larry fought some shock problems that hindered in racing each night--but both nights Larry would come back to put on some excellent freestyles, including a wild reverse move on Saturday night that brought the crowd to their feet!!
The site has been updated with photos and videos from Cape, as well as videos from last year's Extreme Monster Truck Nat's in Lincoln, NE and Denver, CO. Check them out now by heading over to the Media Gallery !!  Thanks and keep checking back for more updates!!

.: New Reaper Scheme Debuts!! :.

December 5th, 2006

After stopping off at Vinyl Images to get the sharp new scheme applied, it was off to Denver, CO where Larry would be competing in the Extreme Monster Truck Nationals this past weekend!! And wouldn't ya know it, in the first weekend out with the brand new body, the truck would end up on its lid!  Larry took it to the limit twice on Friday, putting Reaper up on the sidewalls in both the Wheelie and Freestyle contests, but managed to make great saves both times. However, the third time was the charm on Sunday, as Larry attempted to spin a donut, hooked in the dirt, and rolled it over. Thankfully, damage was minimal and should be repaired with little difficulty. Just goes to show the lengths Larry will go to entertain the fans!!  Check out the below photos to see the first shots of Reaper's new scheme with the big tires. Stay tuned, we should have some new video footage coming your way soon from a few different shows this year!!
